Hi y'all,I am trying to model a sheet metal shelf that has about 2500 holes. It is taking HOURS and HOURS to create the sketch and then make the cut. Any tips for reducing the time needed for something like this?

I am sitting in a Solid Works training class right now, and I just asked your question. The instructor suggested using the array feature. Other than that, you can put a texture map on the renderingIP: Logged |

Unless you are making the perf steel by machining individual holes model it as a solid and use a texture map in the rendering. Unless you have a NASA sized comp. I had a client who we designed a library lamp for, had 1592 .5 inch holes on a half cylindical shape, the .stl file for prototyping was 2.6 gig zipped. The texture map allowed us to produce renderings of the lamp, without having to use the model with the hole pattern. It saves time, and headache.

Sorry I forgot to tell you how to get the perf pattern. Simply scan in an image of the exact perf patern you are wanting, then scale and orrient it to the desired size on the model.IP: Logged |
