I am building a new PC and can't decide between AMD 3000XP or the AMD 64 bit3000 CPU.Any advice ? The 52 bit OS will come out in 6 months. The performance of the 64 bit in 32 bit mode is superior to current 32 bit only CPU. What say you? IP: Logged |

Hey 64 bit,The Opteron is the way to go, or the 64FX if money comes into the equation. Thay are faster then the old XP and pentium processors. In most recent test the 64bit PCs have outperformed most PCs except for the new top of the line Pentiums in CAD and multimedia apps. Yes I am going the 64bit way. It performs better even in 32 bit mode. With 64 bit OS only 4-5 months away I don't have anything to loose apart from $$$$ :-)Just can't decide which MOBO to use. IP: Logged |

I went with the xp 2500. I had a hard time paying 300% more for a computer that performs 20% better. I decided to wait until the software was up to speed. As for as obtaining the computer. I really like the small form factor biostar and shuttle. It's a good compromise between building your own computer and buying a complete system. You buy a barebone system then add proccessor, hard drive, cd, etc. Put it together and your set. I was really pleased with newegg.com You can get everything you need there at really good prices.IP: Logged |

btw. I bought a biostar small form factor, a 40 gig hd, cd burner dvd reader, 1 gb mem, xp 2500,19" lcd screen, and keyboard. for less than 1500. and it all seems to work very well. I'm a mac user switching to the dark side.IP: Logged |
