Hi,I'm Birtish and have an undergraduate degree in Graphic and Multimedia Design from a London Art School, and have worked in the design industry for 5 years. I've always been interested in other design fields, namely Interior Design. Have been thinking of going back to school to study this. Am thinking about going to New York or Toronto, can anyone suggest and recommend any art schools with good Interior Design programmes in these two cities? Also, I'm only familiar with UK education system, so please enlighten me. In UK there're one or two years design diploma course, are there any in US or Canada? I've checked out some art schools, most offer 3 or 4 year courses, I'm not sure if I can handle 4 more yars of college, I'm nearly 30. Any tips for how an international student should go about applying? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much. IP: Logged |

Hmmm. I'm new to this, I just finished entering a reply and it has disapeared - forgive me if this becomes redundant. Anyways, I live in Canada, and work at Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in Vancouver. As a grad, considering entering the design field, I have been looking at simular programs. As far as Toronto is concerned, Ryerson has the best program, 4 years in duration, although I suspect that some of your previous education may transfer credit and reduce your time there. Their website is www.ryerson.ca. As far as I know, it is the only accredited program in Canada except U of M (which is apparently changing anyways). SOOOO, if I were you, and if money wasn't a considerable concern, I'd consider Parsons in NY (which would just stream line things for you) or if you want a shorter program you may want to look at FIT (The Fashion Institute of Technology) also in NY which has shorter programs (18 months I believe) and is very immersed in the industry there. Good luck! (PS. I hear Otis (in LA) has a really interesting Enviromental Design Program, but I haven't looked in to it)

One last thing. The Fashion Institute of Technology is considerably cheaper for foreign students than almost any other program I have seen going on in New York.IP: Logged | |
