...and, schools ask for portfolios. How can I have a portfolio if I have't been in any school yet. Where do designers "start" thier education? Thankful for all replies! IP: Logged |

I had art classes in highschool. I also did lots of drawing and crafts on mine own. That's where my portfolio came from. Most art and design schools have the first year set up as foundation. After that you can decide on your major. IP: Logged |

Foundation is usually a general year for students to "sample" design and art education. This gives the students a better idea of which areas they might be interested in, and helps to weed out ones who wouldn't make it.... Many people who are interested in art or design take part time or night courses in drawing or sculpture, or have hobbies which involve being creative. Schools want to see that you have this creative "seed" in you before they let you in. Of course they don't expect you to show expertise in the area you want to go to school for, but they want to see that you're capable of creative work and have the initiative to make it through art or design school. So get at 'er... IP: Logged |

I like to draw, but I don't really save those drawings I do. It's not like I have a plan when I draw, mostly enjoy doing it. Paper and pen, loosing a couple of hours.Thank you for your responce, I'm a wiser person now. IP: Logged |
