Ok I have a brand spanking new laptop. Eight.
Now when I travel I put a piece of .4 cm plastic on my lap and then the laptop on top.
The underside of the lappy gets hot. This plastic has coped well so far. No sign of warping or melting but I don't want to risk it hence any suggestions on material to use for my lap. It has to be flat for air circulation reasons. Eight

This is just for your personal use right?

Material isn't the main factor, like you said, it can withstand the heat even without good ventilation. What you need to do is to create some space for the air to flow. My dad is a very heavy laptop user. Basically he just get those rubber legs for chairs that are about 0.5 cm high and either attach them to the bottom of your laptop or on top of your plastic. So you will be jacking your laptop up in the air when you use it, while not compromising on the stability.
