I am curious about the software processes that products go through to make it from 'art to part'. Typically, I have witnessed these steps - sketches/models scanned or done in alias
- surfacing over sketches/model data with rhino or alias
- exporting surface model to pro-e or solidworks to create solid model
..
- it's these next steps that I am curious about. I have noticed people talking about using 'Magics' software to test exported stereo lithograph files for holes and so on and patch them up. Is this so that a rapid prototype machine can generate the model ?
Typically what types of rapid prototyping machines are used here (e.g. for a t.v. remote or mobile phone). What is the next stage and software, upon approval of rapid prototype model, to take the product to actual plastic injection molding machinig ?
I am guessing some FEA and FMEA with pro-mech./cosmos comes in here somewhere..is that before or after rapid prototyping ? Which software and filetype is used to generate the final plastic injection mold for tooling ?
Any constructive comments, experience or links here would be appreciated. Thanks!
