Age: 28Experience: 4 years Area: Indutrial/ Interior Design Location: Melbourne, Australia Company: Design and manufacturing company predominately asscociated with glass, stone and metal products for wet areas and interiors, both commercial and domestic. Position: Designer and Project Manager Salary: $43,000 (Australian dollars - equates to approx. US$25,000) ....As a whole, the design profession is poorly paid in Australia. In fact Architecture is the lowest paid profession here and graduates start on the equivalant of US$12,000. My contemporaries and I are aware that our US and European counterparts earn close to double our incomes regretfully. Manufacturing is quite stagnant in Aust. Hence, industrial design positions have dwindled... ...Overseas positions are looking more and more attractive!

22 years so far. 3 year Industrial Design Diploma from local college. Mostly CAD work lately. Most recently was senior designer supervising group of 10 design draftpersons using UG. Southern Ontario. Large, well known company. CDN$32 per hour plus o/t. Contract, no benefits, holidays, bonus or Porsche. I'm not complaining. I probably could have worked in the big city, I chose not to. Also, my wife is a local high school teacher, so relocating is not in the cards. Currently employed as engineering recruiter and doing freelance work.

I'm a free-lance, one person firm. I work at home designing sporting goods mostly. Small university town in NW USA. BFA in sculpture, mostly work in clay, some 2D CAD and sketching.15 years experience. My hourly rate is $85/hr, but I prefer to bid jobs and if I do it right, I usually make $800 to $1000 a day. I grossed $133,000 this year. Fortunately, my lifestyle is highly conducive to deductions and my taxable income will probably be around $80,000. IP: Logged |

I intern at a small ID consultancy in Wisconsin, making $10/hr. Five ID'ers, and four graphic designers. I think they start people at around $30-5k per year.I have a lot of hope for the future of ID, as seen in the above posts...a friend of mine who graduated from my school last year just landed a job a a telecom company: > no experience > $3k signing bonus > paid relocation > $60k per year He is a very good designer, and is well worth it, as we all know we are-now it's just a matter of getting business heads to think that way.
