Everyone always asks this, so lets make it one big post, instead of little ones all over, and get it over with. If you have a job, write in and tell us what you make, or what your co-worker makes, or what the principles of the firm make, or whatever (if you know). Please no names (that includes the made up ones people are identified with here) Keep it anonomous but honest(we do not care who you are or what company you work for, we are interested in what the incomes for the industry really are). Try to add a general area of design you work in, type of company, a general location, and your years of experience. US (east, mid-west, west)? Europe (country)? Asia (country, city)? Canada (don't bother, just kidding, west prairie, or east)? Southern Hemisphere (we want to here from you too)? Working on your own? Working for a design firm? Working for a manufacturer? Working as a desk designer? working as a senior designer? Working as a design manager? Again please no names, that includes the made up ones people go by on this site. We do not wish this to be a joke posting, or mis-information, only honest replies. This info is valuable to all of us in the industry, and there are few acurate resourses for us. This is not to pose further questions, please just post a reply only.
I suggest this format for replies:
UserName: a.) Funiture designer, for a manufacturer, in mid-west, USA, have 5 years experience - $43,000 (US) no stock options. IP: Logged |

72000.yr, I'm #2 in a 15 person design consultancy. the usual 'benefits' i.e. medical, dental, a xmas bonus 2 to 5 grand depending on how profitable we were. ps i have to devote a lot of time in this job after hours, weekends, and all nighters, I don't know if this is fair compensation. Are you guys kidding me. Why would I kid about my income to a bunch of faceless screen names? I think the numbers posted from the midwest(except the guy with the Porche) are faily accurate. Maybe everyone else who does not think so needs to find them selves a new job. How can you honestly post something that acusses some of us as being a lier? That is pretty egotistical to think that anyone here is worth lying to.IP: Logged |

36K to start. temp-to-full time 40hr week. no late nights one of two designers in 10 person firmConcept Development SolidWorks Photoshop, IIlustrator, 3D prototyping, models desktop publishing, client meetings, 1-1.5 hr lunch paid holidays. the past few weeks have been concept development for a new project. No benefits yet but if I resign which basically depends on if they have the work coming in the I'll have 401K, med, dental, and 50% of grad school paid for by the firm if I stay. If so, I expect to get a raise. It's not cheap being a Nutmegger but probably beats Beantown and NYC rents. Syracuse U. prepped me well ahead of the game in ecological design and global end-user theories. I'm probably less likely to design the proverbial "junk" down the road in my career. Maybe I'll get a tax break from "George Dubya" Cheers..... IP: Logged |

How many options do you get and how does it work? Thank you. My guess is 3000 options when you join that vest over 4 years at the strike price when you join. Then an additional grant of 500 shares the next year that you are there that also vest over 4 years.Accurate or dead wrong? IP: Logged |
