Scenario: You send a resume and work samples to a job posting. You tracked the package so you know it made it there. Standard stuff. The catch: "No phone calls or emails please." The question: How long do you wait for a response before you call or email? Or should you honor their request and let it go? IP: Logged |

don't be passive. call their asses.what is the point of sending in your resume, if you can't even follow up on it? only obnoxious bastard firms will say, don't call or email. be weary, they may not be worth your time. more fish are waiting in the sea.... IP: Logged |

I believe the no phone calls thing is more applicable prior to sending portfolio... Follow up is the only way to show that you exist, otherwise you might get skipped... call them...IP: Logged |

forget faxing them. think of how faxes are handled unless you have a specific contact and if you have that specific contact, you should call, it gives you an opportunity to talk.did you recieve my 3 page mini-portfolio showing the heart pump? do you think you would consider me if you have a new opening and would you like me to stay in contact (this is the key to see how interested they are). if they love your talent but just don't have the contracts right now, they won't hire you until they land the contracts. if they love your stuff, they will say to call them again in "x" amount of time and tell them what you are up to and if you are still available (they could just be waiting for Baxter to sign that huge contract). if they could care less, they will say they will keep it on file for 6 months and thanks. it's how personal they get. if they are willing to call you from the airport or from home while they are travelling on business, it means they like your stuff enough to bother to call you. remember that the high level people are responsible for generating work, so they may not be in the office all the time. I am an Engineering Recruiter who just read the post on "no phone calls or emails". The positions us Headhumters post must be made considerably more general than the actual position requires in order to throw off other recruiters as to the whereabouts of the job, whereas they would call and steal the job from us, i.e. "Cherry-Picking". Also, there may be a confidential search that cannot under any circumstances be posted, i.e., an HR Manager who would be looking at the posts themselves. Also, someone who submits a resume may be a perfect for an unposted job, but would not have submitted the resume had they thought the description was too specific. With a general description, however, the response is overwhelming and, literally, we only have enough time in the day, in addition to developing new business, to respond to direct fits.In other news, I have 4 permanent positions with two companies in the Chicagoland area for Middle level and Senior level Industrial Designers. If interested please reply with a resume in word format. This is free of charge to the applicants. Good fits will be contacted. That's a bunch of BS. If you sent them something, per their request on a posting, then you have the right to expect them to at least acknowledge the receipt of your package and eventually a response (interview, rejection letter, etc.)CALL. I can't believe how rude this company is being! BTW I wouldn't wait more than 1-2 weeks to find out if the received it. Just 'cause it got their doesn't mean it got to that person.

you guys are silly...put yourself in thier shoes..the reason they ask say "no phone calls" is so they can get work done during the day....do you have any idea how many portfolio you recieve when you post an opening on Coroflot?...and the reason we have portfolios in our profession is to display what we have without saying a word. Whether you call me and your the coolest person in the world, I won't give you a second chance if your portfolio isn't up to par. Let the work speak for itself.IP: Logged |
