you need to be more of an ***hole first and be willing to screw your employees and contractors out of time and money. Improve your weaseling skills and develop an "I'm incredible" attitude.

...or else you'll be unsuccessful. (or small time)

If you did that, then you wouldn't be offering something new that potential clients haven't seen before. WHAT IF you decided to run an honest business, didn't lie, delivered on time and treated your employees well? - maybe then you'd have something on your hands that is new to ID consulting world.

Well, the only way to know if you are ready is to start thinking about all of the things that go into a design firm. Look at SuperHappyBunny. They didn't even finish their BFA and they were in ID top 40. I think the approach one should take when pursuing ANY new business is to think of what you have to offer. Does your skillset/attitude differ and offer different yet marketable solutions?

I'm having the same thoughts FutureGoal...
Sneezy ain't lying...

First, Do you have enough work experience and people on your contact list...

Second.. What DO YOU offer that no other company/freelancer can offer.

Lastly... you gotta research a lot of things...EX. how to properly brand and market yourself... who's your target customer... how to sell your idea to companies or offer your services to companies... etc., etc., etc.

Anyway... talk to designers that have started their own businesses... ask them how they began, what hardships they went thru, and all that jazz...

After that, you should know if you're ready for "THE GAME"...

If you haven't already... read the IDEO bible: "The Art of Innovation" by Tom Kelley... (very inspiring)

Good luck. I'll see ya in the corporate world!!
