Is anyone in the same situation as me? I've been out of university for 3 months now and i am so depressed about the lack of job interest that I'm beginning to doubti my skills. I used to think that I was a good all-round designer , team player and peoples person, but the lack of job interest is really chipping away at what motivation I have left. any one got a cure and although it sounds shallow, what is the longest period you waited till landing your first job, it may give me hope, boo hoo hoo hoo...IP: Logged |

Don't give up, 3 months is nothing for fresh out of school. Use the time to learn a new program and to work on your own portfolio projects. You'll have time to make them the way you want them to be without the constraints of a class project. And you'll be able to devote time to them and not worry about your english final exam. Times are tough, just don't give up. I have exp. and easily go 3-4 month stretches w/ no juicy (rent paying) pj's (but I'm also lousy at promoting myself and don't really cold call). Keep your head up, and don't look at it as down-time. See it as time to get one-up on someone elses portfolio who may be working but can't show what they're doing for another 3 yrs. You have time to make your book better than theirs. Some things just depends on how you look at it. Good luck to ya. IP: Logged |

Three months, try being out of work in your field since you gratuated last may 2003!!! Then try working two jobs unrealated to your field just to survive and trying to keep up with your portfolio and make time interviewing with companies to get into the field. Then come back and wine to me!

At least you could find unrelated work! I keep getting the old line "I don't want to hire you because WHEN the economy improves you will leave me for a better job and I will be out of help". So I can't even get a grunt job. I have been out since May of 2002 so 3 months is still a vacation. Sorry to be so bitter but the bank is callingIP: Logged |

Lost in space~I suggest you change your stratagie for the unrelated jobs. List your related experience to the job you are applying not your experience with your major. I only landed the job i am at now because i had experience doing this kind of work while in school.. and when you try to go to an agency they say give us your experience in word or office related stuff not design! WTH its so funny the schools tell you all this stuff about how design is a growing industry and their are a lot of jobs opening up. Then you attend graduate and where are all the jobs? IP: Logged |

o yeah if you apply to an unrealated job do not mention you want to be in design! tell them some bs about how you want to grow and expand in their company maybe become a manager some day ect ect.. if you mention the design of coarse they are like why would we hire him/her if they will be leaving as soon as they get a design position! I've found the so called "unrelated" jobs to be benefiicial in those in-between times. Sometimes just being out there meeting and talking to people gets you opportunities you wouldn't have thought of by sitting at home hammering away at that resume. IP: Logged |

hey boo boo. a few months down the road you will be gainfully employed with the job of your dreams or something close to it wishing you had taken advantage of this spare time to ENJOY LIFE.if your book is together and you are sending stuff out, why not do some travelling, reading, or other refreshing and energizing activity?
