Frist, check out http://www.microsoft.com/careers/default.aspx

Then look for Microsoft's job posting for UI designers and read what they are looking for. To be a successful UI designer, your ability to understand end user needs (both expressed and latent) and to work with others are as important as your design sense and SW skills.

Good luck!

I guess you already have come across the books of Jacob Nielsen. If not I would recommend you to browse through them when you have the time.

I am not certain that they are so good that I would recommend you to skip other things (in your preperations for the interview) in order to read them

You might want to check this book out:

GUI Bloopers: Don'ts and Do's for Software Developers and Web Designers by Jeff Johnson

• Publisher: Morgan Kaufmann; 1st edition (March 2000)
• ISBN: 1558605827

(I bought mine in the Boston University bookstore... required reading for beginning programing.)
