Derek Chan, Cries and Whispers from the Salt Song Trail

Earlier this year, Chicago-based artist Derek Chan took a self-imposed pilgrimage to the Four Corners region of the Southwest to learn about everyday rituals. He visited sacred villages where photography was prohibited and documented his trip with ink drawings. The drawings collected in this travelogue are a response and interpretation to myth, politics and the landscape surrounding the Hopi Mesas, Navajo Territory, Black Mesa and Canyon De Chelly.
