I know what I want for Christmas. I want a DVD player that also stores all of my movies like a jukebox. I want it to digitally recognize and identify the movies in the machine (so that I don’t have to program it) and I want it to have a menu of what I can watch from my collection. I want it to store a reasonably large amount of DVDs and have a nice looking removable cartridge that you can buy extras of for larger collections. Sort of like a slide carousel but something that would look nice on a shelf if need be. Maybe that same cartridge also has a place for you to store the little booklet that may or may not have come with the movie. I am tired of finding new ways to keep my various removable media. I might even suggest the same for CDs, but I find that they need a more mobile form of storage. I bring CDs to work and in the car, while I don’t really ever relocate a DVD. (Maybe CDs need a better Case Logic that takes into account where the case lands at home). As far as the DVD thing... maybe these cartridges could somehow just daisy chain together in your A/V cabinet as your collection grows. Once this whole idea is made a possibility there are all sorts of "feature" possibilities: randomly playing all of your horror movies for a Halloween party, occupying your kids at the teevee for a Disney marathon, watch ALL of the Pink Panther movies consecutively in order of date made – now that’s my type of machine. What’s more – there would be so much less damage to your DVDs since they’d sit in a relatively dust free container – because as I’m sure you all know – those "indestructible" CDs are anything but.
