The Student Life
an ongoing journal by Donald Lehman
....who is Donald Lehman?

March 31, 2003

By Donald Lehman

My unlisted, uncredited class this quarter is landing a summer ID job. As many of you are well aware (I assume you are in the mist of taking this class yourself) this is a full-time endeavor.

There is the resume, the portfolio, the work samples, the business cards, the emails, the phone calls, the trying not to come off as some punk kid…

At this point in my life I really have only one requirement: 1) I have to love what the company is doing. I don’t really feel hamstrung by going off to another location; in fact I am looking forward to being outside of Rochester for the summer. I am young, I am supposed to explore, right?

Of course, I can still come back to school in the fall. The seniors sitting across from me in the studio cannot. This is an odd feeling for me, as I have become good friends with a number of them and I am realizing that I will be in their shoes come next year. (Not to mention people my age are getting married, figuring out mortgages, moving to far away places. Do I have to be a grown-up now?)

But I digress. School has been fairly interesting this quarter when I find time for it. I am taking two politics classes, which are incredibly helpful in sorting out world affairs right now. If you haven’t heard the US is at war, which means all of the hippies come out of the woodworks and decide they need to sleep outside for 10 days. Now I am all for protesting the war, but not when it’s just a cover to play hackeysack and the bongos.

That is all for now. I hope to see a bunch of you in Bridgeport this weekend at the IDSA Northeast conference. I’ll put in a little article showing off what went down when I get back.

“That’s So Freakin’ Genius” Design of the Month: Pixeltees.com

Pixeltees is a website which allows you to design t-shirts and then put them up for sale. You make a couple bucks if they sell the design. It’s free. Anyone can do it. The shockwaved t-shirt designer is pure gold.
