3D Model Resources
Community driven, engineering oriented, detailed and aesthetic, 3D printing oriented, royalty-free, paid, free. Libraries, marketplaces. No matter what your needs or interests are, if you're in search of a 3D model, or want to share a model you made, there is sure to be a suitable resource for you.
The more professionally oriented offerings have advanced search and filtering options, and offer extremely high quality models that are fully realized, rigged, or animated. You'll need to pay for quality like that, but you'll save dozens of hours of work for each model so it can be well worth it. Other sites offer community engagement on many levels, and operate as a way for students and enthusiasts to share their knowledge and skills. Here are a few resources to get you started. GrabCAD is an online community of professional engineers, designers, manufacturers, and STEM students who upload and share 3D models and CAD files. They offer a 3D printing software application that is optimized for Stratasys printers. You can search the library by category (i.e. automotive, construction, furniture, military, etc.) and also by file type. The files are all community generated and are free to download.

The service is operated by Dassault Systemes, makes of SolidWorks, and as such is a bit more business and industry focused than most other 3D libraries. The models are organized into hundreds of categories, and are optimized for use in SolidWorks. This is a good source if you're looking for a model of a particular part that is made by a particular company, or if you're looking for assembly models to use in a larger product model.
