The New Material Award invites artists and designers to present designs that offer innovative solutions to the issues of today and the challenges of tomorrow. Each project should integrate new materials, or innovative ways of using materials. The prize awards two accolades: the New Material Award of € 15.000 for a final design and the New Material Fellow for a fleshed-out design idea linked to a research question. The submission procedure begins today, and ends on 25 April 2016.
The New Material Award is a joint venture between Stichting DOEN, Fonds Kwadraat and Het Nieuwe Instituut. These organizations firmly believe in the potential of artists, designers and architects to play a vital role in initiating new developments in society, and devising sustainable responses to urgent issues facing us today.
The New Material Award is on the cutting edge of science, design, art and technology. The prize aims to challenge participants to think beyond their own discipline in seeking solutions for the future. This ambition is also reflected in the submissions, which span a broad spectrum of innovative solutions in which functionality, aesthetics and sustainability go hand in hand.
The New Material Award is open to artists, designers, fashion designers and architects working in the Netherlands. For further details relating to the entry requirements, how the prize works and the winners and nominees of previous editions, go to www.newmaterialaward.nl.
A committee of experts will select sixteen to eighteen designs from all the submissions. The selected designs will be exhibited from 22 to 30 October during Dutch Design Week 2016 in Eindhoven. The jury will announce the two winners at the opening on 22 October 2016.
This edition also includes a new feature - a presentation of the New Material Award during international Design Week in Milan in April 2017.
