Swandoo wanted to design a car seat to grow with a child from newborn to 18 kg, delivering optimum safety and superior ergonomics in every stage of growth. The Marie 360 car seat set a new precedent in the industry. It extended the product life cycle, and only required a one-time investment from parents, reducing spending and waste.
Accelerating Design for Regulation -
Navigating a car seat design through the regulatory and testing process often takes years. We fast-tracked this complex process by building a 3D virtual rig, inputting the physical testing constraints and requirements identified by Swandoo’s engineering team, so that all design was guaranteed to comply with the defined parameters.
Ergonomic Design & Safety Testing -
Safety and comfort for parents and children were essential in our design process. Using industry standard virtual models, we tested the ergonomics of seat positions for various child sizes. In collaboration with Swandoo’s safety experts, we tested safety components within our virtual environment.
This approach paid off. The Marie Swandoo seat received a five-star rating in rear-facing position by the ADAC safety test, and ‘Best in Category’ (approved up to approx. 4 years/40-105 cm) by ADAC, ÖAMTC, and TCS in the autumn 2021 consumer tests.
Soft Goods for Organic Form -
The creative direction for Swandoo’s organic shapes and curves came from their Chief Designer Nicolas Gonzalez-Garrido. To maintain the integrity of his vision, we reversed our traditional soft goods workflow (flat pattern to 3D form) and unwrapped the 3D sculpted design to generate 2D patterns.
AR for eCommerce -
We designed an interactive AR experience to showcase Swandoo’s car seat and color options, and enhance the brand’s web presence.
