In true Berlin style DMY Berlin came back this year for its 13th edition taking over the historic Kraftwerk Berlin. The former industrial plant (previously used to power the eastern regions of Berlin), turned historic techno club, turned event space, housed hundreds of objects, furniture and conceptual design works for the yearly festival.

The festival spanned two floors of the industrial space with highlights including student work from VOMO at Thomas More University College in Belgium, and Poetic Wearable Devices from Hochschule Osnabrück. Additionally, the show was peppered with talks from big names like Architect Piero Lissoni and promising up-and-comers including MIITO.

After 13 years, DMY has found a nice niche in the Berlin design scene but has yet to pack the punch of larger festivals. Having become a destination for many Eastern European designers, we expect that the event has potential to bring together some of the most interesting new thought outside of the major design hubs.

Teshia Treuhaft

Teshia Treuhaft is a Michigan-born designer. Upon graduating from back-to-back degrees, a BFA from the University of Michigan and MFA of Furniture Design from RISD, she moved to Berlin to pursue a research project considering shifting paradigms in design education. Teshia currently works at the tangible UX startup Senic.
