If you're constantly seeking out new sources of caffeine, a stop at the Octavio Café in São Paulo's Faria Lima avenue is essential for anyone visiting the city. Opening late last year, the cafe's large oval shaped atrium offers a tranquil break from the daily chaos outside. Designed by Seragine Farné Guardado, the creative objective was to keep the focus on coffee at every touch point. And they've succeeded, perhaps a little too much, as the overt references to the history and culture of coffee feels a bit like what you might expect from an upscale Starbucks.
The coffee however is world class, the interior is sophisticated with good acoustics, natural light and has a strong coffee aroma creating a relaxed environment to meet a friend or a business colleague. Plans to open a New York café are on the board and if it comes through, I really hope they bring their chocolate mousse.
