If I were to spend $2,995 on a sound system, I'd expect it to come wrapped in a used Camry. But the F80 stereo comes to you from Meridian, the same company that has a $14,850 CD player on the market.
The Chicago Tribune's Kevin Hunt has rated the F80's sound as amazing, with a tunable spatial width, and industrial designer Allen Boothroyd has added nice touches like a hidden magnet that holds the remote in place and minimally elegant controls. Meridian also "collaborated" with Ferrari on the colors, but that sounds less like a collaboration and more like 30 seconds on the phone while one of Enzo's guys reads out some Pantone numbers in Italian.
Overall, three large for a desktop stereo--and another $399 for an iPod dock, which really oughta come standard in this day and age--seem like a bit much. But it sure is purty. What we're most curious about is, why the heck are the product photos on the website shot on what looks to be foamcore and a pine board?!? (See above.)
