Here's the strangest object I've seen this week, something that seems very well made--and whose function and purpose completely eludes me. Then again, I'm not the EDC type, and the $99 Dango Coin Capsule + Tether Bundle is obviously aimed at that set.
It's a chunk of 6061 aluminum that's been CNC milled…to hold precisely $5.44 in U.S. coins.
I figured it would dispense the coins in some nifty way, like a spring-loaded change belt, but no. Instead you must unscrew the top, regardless of which coin compartment you're trying to access:

I just can't see how this is an improvement over, like, pockets. Can the EDC enthusiasts among you explain the appeal of this object? I'm asking sincerely.

Peculiar Object: The Dango Coin Capsule
For an EDC device, fill it with pre-65 junk silver us coins. If you're in that emergency EDC/SHTF mindset, then having "real money" would be important.
I think it's a deniable weapon of self defense. Seems pretty sturdy and should weigh enough to do some damage. With the lanyard you can swing it to good effect.
Oof... interesting find!
I also thought it would be springloaded or something, where you can just get the coin you want with a small flick of your thumb. Having it not completely filled up with coins will probably make it rattle when you walk.
And finally, I would just go insane trying to keep all the stacks filled up, and hate it when I use a coin because now the stacks aren't the same height.... Cuz, I'm crazy like that :)...
But... It just seems so appealing... There is probably a niche for it right?
For many years I've used a kinder egg container, and it works great. I suppose those aren't available in the US, where this is marketed for given the coin sizes. In Canada we have 1 and 2 dollar coins and I've also used it for subway tokens as well. The problem with this product is it's inflexible...
This is what the kinder container looks like: http://atomicshrimp.com/post/2009/08/31/A-Dozen-Uses-For-Kinder-Surprise-Egg-Prize-Pods
So someone at a laundromat is spending $100 to hold coins so it can put on the machine? And most parking meters are now using an app or a credit card. Who uses coins?? Super cool looking product, but maybe 20 years too late.
