From this basic, expressive sketch…
…Italian industrial designer Odo Fioravanti worked up some physical models…
…to create the CJ (Coffee Jockey) machine, which tips over from modernism to brutalism:
I thought perhaps it was a concept, but it was commissioned by espresso machine manufacturer Moak, and is apparently part of their forthcoming new line. Fioravanti put a lot of thought into how the basic geometric shapes that comprise the form go together:
"This machine represents a paradigm change compared to the capsule coffee machines on the market based on an idea of '??transitive' design linked to passing fashions. It is a product of great geometric simplicity, a composition of volumes that intertwine, creating a series of opportunities for the positioning of the technical bodies and which leave the touch screen in view, as if it were placed on a small shelf."
"The tank can be grabbed directly from the lid gap which exactly overlaps a hidden handle."
"The grid, made of three parts that can be disassembled and washed in the dishwasher, is designed as a slat shape that communicates the idea of ??permeability and has a continuous height thanks to an innovative coupling on the used capsule holder drawer."
"The machine has a generously sized tank and the possibility of dispensing two coffees or two drinks at the same time on two side-by-side cups."
"The machine is part of a product system with a new line of coffee blends and a proprietary capsule system."
Fioravanti has 2022 listed as the year for this project, but at press time it appears Moak is not yet selling it.

This article would work best as audio so we can hear Rain say "cuafee". ;)
Nice clean design. Doesn’t try to mimic commercial machines. Don’t know about the “Brutal” blend though…
