This peculiar portable light source is called the DarkMaster. It looks like something that would've come out of the Bauhaus, if they had the technology back then.
The object itself is not only rectilinear, but it's been designed to cast a rectilinear beam:
There's an odd, flappable reflector up top that allows you to use it as a tabletop lighting source:
The object is also magnetic:
Lastly, it runs on non-proprietary rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, making replacement easy.
The DarkMaster has been successfully Kickstarted, and units are going for $122 on Kickstarter. At press time there was four days left to pledge.
