I dunno about this one: Teenage Engineering is branching out from tech-driven devices into dumb ol' furniture. "Since we love to build things, we decided to create our own modular work environment," the company writes, as an introduction to their new Field Desk:
"A space truss constructed from recycled aluminum and assembled with double-sided Formica birch plywood, Field Desk is our very own modular workspace. It's everything it needs to be and nothing it doesn't."
"Field Desk is part of our Field Rail system. it's an open-ended range of interconnecting aluminum rails that enable the creation of customizable modular furniture and accessories. made from 75% recycled CIRCAL aluminum from Scandinavian manufacturer Hydro."
The desk measures 1195 mm (47") wide, 770 mm (30.5") deep and 750 mm (30") tall.
Obviously it ships flatpacked and is user-assembled (instructions are here if you want to take a gander). They say the desk will support 75kg (165 lbs.), but I can't see how that single sheet of plywood, with no support along the long axis, wouldn't sag over time.
Price? $1,600 a pop.

Can be made at a fraction of costs with existing systems like 1010 or Bosch Rexroth. Why introduce a new system, besides monetization?
