Just a reminder that global uncertainty is always good business for someone. Costco sells this 150 Serving Emergency Preparedness Food Bucket, which contains "carefully crafted meals" in mylar pouches, and with a shelf life of 25 years. To prepare them, you add the contents of each pouch to a pot of boiling water.
The term "servings" is technically accurate, but a little misleading; what's actually in the bucket is "80 servings of hearty entrees & sides, 30 servings for nourishing breakfasts, and an additional 40 drink servings." All told it's 25,280 calories, and the buckets retail for $100.
If you'd like a little more security, you can step up to a 36-bucket pallet. That's 5,400 servings for 3 grand.
The product is by ReadyWise, a Utah-based specialty grocer that specializes in ready-made emergency food supplies. "If any of our ReadyWise products don't taste as good in 25 years as they do today," the company writes, "please contact us and we will work to make it right." Will their customer support line survive the apocalypse?
