From a functional perspective, it would be nice if every hotel room had a lamp like this. Easy-to-find switch, directable light, both USB and standard-plug power.
That is the Jax Fade lamp, by California-based Conway Electric, and it actually has a surge protector built into it. They also make it with a brass rotary wheel for dimming.
The company briefly found a way to profit from flawed parts produced during the manufacturing process. They produced this Jax Raw variant, which totally looks like something you'd find in a boutique hotel:
"The cast aluminum casing as it is when it's ejected from the mold; unpolished and untreated; uneven and imperfect. Raw brass inserts untreated as they come off lathe. Uncoated sandblasted steel tube, rust patina. A stamped and sandblasted cover plate. The steel tube and the cover plate were quality control finish rejects: the finish was burned off then sandblasted and otherwise left untreated & uncoated. The stainless spun shade as it is off the mold."
The Jax Raw doesn't appear to be available anymore, though the Jax Fade still is. It runs $275.

I like the Raw one better. Kudos to the marketing team for seeing the "beauty" in the raw materials.
