ToughBuilt's Auto-Loading Utility Knife is for tradespeople who go through a lot of blades in a day.
Pull the spent blade out, jog the slide, and a new blade magically clicks into place.
It's got multi-position blade stops, and a notch for cutting twine.
The other end features a pry bar.
While the company didn't invent auto-loading utility knives—Stanley's offered one for years—this one is simply better-designed. In addition to the beefy rubber overmolding...
...ToughBuilt's design team has added capacity. Stanley's holds five blades; ToughBuilt's holds ten in the autoloading chamber, with room to store another ten in the handle. That's far less trips to the toolbox or van.
For years I've been curious about this company, specifically who does their design. I've now learned the company was co-founded by veteran industrial designer and ArtCenter grad Joshua Keeler, who serves as Chief Design Officer, and that they've got an in-house ID department in California. I'm always happy to see an ID guy in the C-suite.
