From a product design perspective, the EDC market is fascinating. Here you have people lavishing design attention on objects that would be, for me as a non-EDC person, worthless in real life; yet some of these objects are positively MoMA-worthy.
Take this IMP Folding Knife, done in collaboration between Finnish EDC brand Audacious Concept and U.S. brand D Rocket Design. Each line, curve and facet reveal a true mastery of form.
From a UX perspective, there's a glow-in-the-dark dot, and the pocket clip is removable, replaceable with a filler tab.
It also comes in (of course) a version with carbon fiber
As for how it opens and closes:
The knives run about $230!

Let me see... Lets make a shape knife without enough handle to hold it properly...
Looks like some people are going to pay $230 for a tiny box cutter.
Pros: cool design. Mid: could use a hook blade point on the back of the blade. Bad: Price. Insane, very much targeted at IT managers doing EDC cosplay.
