Baseball doesn't sound as dangerous as American football or rugby, but anyone who has taken a fastball to the head will tell you differently from his hospital bed. Enter Ohio-based Priority Designs, which worked with sporting goods manufacturer Rawlings to develop the S100 helmet. The S100 uses a composite insert within a polypropylene frame to weather shots of up to 100 miles per hour--not bad when you consider the average baseball helmet will reportedly dent at a lowly 70 m.p.h.
