A little early for Father's Day, French designer Laurent Corio honors his "design fathers" by..."killing" them (a teenage gesture, in his words). In a project entitled Designer Daddy Issues, he's rebuilt a few of Alessi's design icons, supposedly to free him from old traditions so he can move on to the next.
There is no commercial goal in this project, only the expression of the will, as a designer, to rebuild something from what has been done, in order to "kill" the father, as a teenager, and in this process conceive objects differently in a brand new world with new rules.
We're not sure about the new rules or father killing part, but we like the salif reinvented as a spoon—will this be equally as contentious as the original?
Laurent will be showing the spoon alongside a bottle made from an impression of King Kong's Girotondo Basket during Paris' Designer's Days at the Galerie Catberro, from June 9th through 14th.
