For the second year in a row, Jello will take design center stage in Brooklyn this Saturday night at the GSS Jell-O Mold Competition. This year's theme is "resilience" (will be challenging, considering the, um, medium) and I'll be a judge along with Becky Stern of Make: Online and CRAFT, food-design strategist Elizabeth Jones, and Harry Allen of Harry Allen Design. Host Thu Tran of Food Party will announce the winners, and the whole event will take place in the Gowanus Studio Space.
Molds will be judged based on creativity, aesthetics, structural/sculptural integrity, edibility/culinary appeal, and best use and showcase of Jell-O. Audience members will also have opportunity to vote for People's Choice mold. Kelso beer and custom Jell-O shots will be served (natch), along with Jell-O creations. This event is free to the public, $5 suggested donation welcome. Doors open at 6pm. Music by DJ Allied Mastercomputer till 10pm.
