Ah, the wonderful dilemma with design festivals: too much to do, too little time. The London Design Festival is making that problem even worse, announcing that it's sweep of the city is broadening with three new design districts, each with its own character and events. In addition to Brompton and the Shoreditch Design Triangle, the Covent Garden, Fitzrovia Creative, and Clerkenwell districts will help to further inundate London with design September 18-26. Various events, exhibitions, and installations are scheduled in each of the districts. For more information, download the London Design Festival Guide here. Opening late on Wednesday, September 22, the Covent Garden Design District includes five exhibitions, three events and a two-day film festival with members such as Aram, The Hospital Club and the London Transport Museum. Also launching that evening, Fitzrovia Creative consists of design-led retail venues, galleries, hotels and eateries. And the Clerkenwell District, opening the evening of Tuesday, September 21, includes designers Alias, Bene, Cappellini, Modus and Toto.
Brompton will continue as a hub for one-off design exhibitions, Mint's "Homeworks" and Studio Toogood's "Super Natural" being highlights this year. Shoreditch district notables are presentations of Jasper Morrison's and Lee Broom's work, in addition to the Tramshed, a new exhibition and creative collaboration of 25 design brands. Finally, the Dock is back with exhibitions and pop-up stores plus Tom Dixon's Global Industry.
