We just caught wind of a new kind of 3D-Interface Controller, the Axsotic 3D Spherical Mouse, which allows a user to rotate objects in modelspace as though you were holding them, while drawing and clicking with your other, an experience likened by the designers to working on a 3D tablet. In the video above, the mouse is demonstrated in a character design scenario.
We'd love to hear your initial thoughts. Would this change the way you work for the better? Let us know in the comments.

Working Better in 3D? The New Axsotic Spheric Mouse
@ Joel, the video shows a left handed working with it. but this device is universal for left or right handed. no matter.
@m, actually yes, that would be the ultimate device!
@Ryan, we have had long time test with it. you will not get problems with your hand. because you use all possible movements your hand can do. because its not a static position there is not such a pain as working hours with a mouse.
the main different to a space navigator is, that you have a absolute and very precise control on the thing you do second most while working as an artist. this is rotating your objects. there has been a test with a early prototype at the bauhaus-univeristy on 3d work environment and its up to 70 % faster than a working with a mouse and up to 30% faster than working with a space navigator.
We have to get devices out as fast as possible so all of you can test it for your own workflow.
I would also be interested in how comfortable this is to use over long periods of time as it appears to force the hand into a specific shape to control it.
nice innovation.
As was mentioned before, that only gives you three degrees of rotational control. The 3DConnexion/Logitech Space Pilot/Navigator/etc. controllers give you those three degrees of rotational control plus three degrees of translational control too.
But certainly, there's a difference between using this and the 3DConnexion stuff- very similar to the difference between using a mouse and a pointing stick. One's a motion based control vs the other with is a force based control.
