Case Study: Ziba for TDK Life on Record, by Paul O'Connor and Carl Alviani
I also wouldn't consider the boombox a design rehash, but is it a product rehash? Or will this just end up sitting in a home setting similar to the apple boombox, which ended up being a speaker with handles and an empty battery compartment.
Im just curious where its place is in this day in age?
I think an interesting part of research I would like to see would be the rise of the boom box - where and why was it ever made back in the day? Intended market vs what they actually evolved into.
Specs?
Is it Direct-Drive or Belt-drive?
Can it accept my MicroAcoustics MA 282e cartridge/stylus?
The one problem I have with the project is I think the designers have largely underestimated the widespread craving for products such as these. The price tag certainly restricts the products to this elite they call the 'music prophets'.
Maybe I will have to buy a Walkman after all.
Ovid sketched the boombox on the spot. I remember him saying he had sketched the boombox so much he memorized it.
Truly AMAZING work
But it is also a big difference if you want to appear serving the "music prophet" or actually sell to them. I do hope though this project pans out nicely for you guys, since you are clearly creating great stuff.
Great looking products. My only concern is that if anything, these products look too sleek to live up to their predecessors. I mean that they look like they will be at home in the same studio or office with the iPhone and and the Artemide lamp, but they will not hold up to the b-boy session on the sidewalk. maybe if you design them for the street, they will look TOO retro. Oh well.
I don't have room in my life fora boom box or a giant vinyl collection but I will definitely be checking out those cans.
