In Defense of Delight
You make the case for what may be a vague notion more concrete; especially with the examples you cite. Well written, and joyful, thanks.
While I am not a designer, I find similar "questions" come up in the world of theatre and performance.
Delight is important. If it didn't exist, we wouldn't get up in the morning. And then what would happen?
thank you.
There is also evidence that positive emotions help counteract ego depletion. Ego depletion happens when we are consciously controlling our behavior to avoid habits and engage in novel behaviors. Normally, we can only do this for a small amount of time until our ego is depleted and we revert to old behaviors. But, positive emotions have been shown to help us avoid ego depletion, allowing us to exert conscious control over our behaviors for longer. Basically, positive motions help you make yourself a better person through conscious change!
