I am lurving what Core77 fave Because We Can (a/k/a Jeffrey McGrew and Jillian Northrup) has done with the dead space in this private residence.
A library catwalk was decided on to maximize storage space by taking advantage of the high ceilings. Cubbies tucked beneath each step of the spiral staircase rise in succession to eventually make room for a computing nook tucked beneath. The user sits on the edge of the bench, which can be rolled out into the space and also contains storage space within. Also note that attached to the wall is a padded back for the bench, which can be folded down to provide shelf space.
We've written about the husband-and-wife design team before, for good reason; check out some of their older projects here and here.
