The third annual Jell-O Mold Competition came to its jiggly conclusion on a sweltering Summer evening June 25th at the Gowanus Studio Space in Brooklyn. This year's theme was Jell-O's Big Adventure and design competitors did not disappoint taking Jell-O from the political to the aquatic. Working in teams or as individuals, designers were encouraged to experiment with different types of gelatin—important as there was no refrigeration onsite—and were required to make original molds for casting their edible art.

The Grand Prize went to Peter Pracilio's Jelly Fishin', real fishing lures made of Jell-O who assures us they were tested on fish in the East River, students from the Cooper-Hewitt Design Scholar High School took out the Aesthetics, and Structural Integrity categories, Jell-O Dogs won Culinary Appeal, and a special jury's Bad-Ass Award was given to Hugh Hayden for Edible Taxidermy: Where Do Eggs Come From?

Judges included Core77's Allan Chochinov, Emily Elsen of Four and Twenty Blackbirds, Josee Lepage of Bondtoo, and Keith Ozar of MakerBot Industries who alongside attendees enjoyed custom Jell-O shots inspired by Mad Men, Cabaret Voltaire, and Fat Albert, and finished the evening with a round of Jeckers by Anney Fresh (Jell-O shot checkers).
