Last week saw the launch of the Frivolous Engineering Company Inc., turning Ontario-based tinkerer Brett Coulthard's hobby into an official business. The FEC's flagship product is self-described as "The Most Useless Machine Ever" (aka The Best Post of the Year):
The machines are selling for $40 a pop, or $30 for a some-assembly-required version, and will begin shipping at the end of this month.
Of course you can also build your own, as a tinkerer known only as Das did with a little Arduino:
My question is, what would the industrial design version of a self-defeating object be? Anyone got sketches, ideas, mock-ups?
I’m a lapsed industrial designer. I was born in NYC and figured I’d die there, but a few years ago I abandoned New York to live on a farm in the countryside with my wife. We have six dogs.
