The Brooklyn Night Bazaar is a temporary gathering of local artists, designers, musicians and chefs who are coming together in for three nights at a pop-up space in Williamsburg. They're building on the momentum they picked up with their inaugural event at Dekalb Market in Downtown Brooklyn just a few months ago in October.
Billed as a hub for creative culture that is conspicuously well-timed for the holidays, 149 Kent Avenue will serve as the venue for over 100 local merchants and food vendors, boasting an interior and bespoke furniture by Julien de Smedt architects, art installations and projections by NBNY, live performances by James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem), the Hold Steady, Titus Andronicus and more.
More info on some of the exhibitors we're looking forward to seeing after the jump... JDS Architects The Bazaar reimagines the market as an immersive environment with the renowned architect Julien De Smedt who transforms the space with custom furnishings and sculptural lighting features as well as a floor plan inspired Lars von Trier's Dogville. Julien De Smedt garnered international acclaim for the Holmenkollen Ski Jump in Oslo and for his designs of public spaces on waterfronts. His firm currently has projects in China, Brazil, Denmark and France.
DoTank:Brooklyn & DSGN AGNC DoTank:Brooklyn is teaming with DSGN AGNC to create an ad-hoc book shop that barters, sells, and lends books on urbanism. The bookstore will counter the circus capitalism atmosphere of the market by offering a place for reflection, and demonstrating how a Sharing Economy could work.
Fabricators Guild Fabricators Guild, Brooklyn's newest digital fabrication studio, provides custom services to everyone from artists to hobbyists to architects. They emphasize research and development of innovative techniques, materials and software design tools. Their interactive pop-up shop will feature a preview of their work including a generative lamp shade and slice form chair.
FLATCUT The stage backdrop and custom lighting elements for the Brooklyn Night Bazaar are digitally designed and fabricated by FLATCUT. The Patterns are inspired by Frei Otto's "wet grid" structural experiments, which were recreated digitally and translated into tool pathing for laser cutting. Digital design techniques were utilized to create a flexible light weight system that could be easily installed. The panels are made of 1/16” aluminum laser cut on an industrial laser cutter.
Tomorrow Lab Tomorrow Lab, a product design and development lab in New York, will be rapid-manufacturing modules onsite that will aggregate into a site-specific sculpture over the course of the three nights. Additionally they will install a set of binoculars that will allow visitors a sense of voyeurism form the mezzanine.
The event will take place from Thursday, December 15, through Saturday, December 17. See the full lineup, concert schedule and more at http://bkbazaar.com.
