It can't be easy to redesign silverware, what with the form factors being so clearly entrenched; but designer Kate Chung breaks out of the box with her Calligraphy Series of Cutlery, all inspired by "the strong calligraphic lines of Shou Jing Ti, a font created by Emperor Song Hui Zong (1082 AD-1135 AD)," with the stainless steel utensils meant to evoke brushstrokes.
Also part of the Calligraphy Series are desinger Wong Chi Fung's striking Seafood Set, below.
The Calligraphy Series is produced by housewares manufacturer Jia, a promising Chinese brand (albeit one based in Hong Kong as opposed to the mainland) that champions original design and a combination of designers both homegrown and foreign.
While based on Chinese culture, JIA welcomes discussion and different points of views. JIA projects are often created through the combination of this dialogue and with the identification of objects that are relevant to both the Asian and Western dining table.
