The Earlybird Deadline may have come and gone, but that doesn't mean it's too late to get in on the Core77 Design Awards. We announced our first round of jury captains at the very beginning of this year and gave you a look into the professional backgrounds of seven of the people who will be judging your work. To add a little motivational fire to your creative process, we're introducing five more jury captains (with the final five to come). Read up—and take notes—on the jury captains for the Visual Communication, Social Impact, Writing & Commentary, Speculative and Service categories:
» Marian Bantjes Designer, Typographer, Writer and Illustrator
Marian Bantjes is a designer, typographer, writer and illustrator working internationally from a small island off the west coast of Canada, near Vancouver. Marian is known for her detailed and lovingly precise vector art, her obsessive hand work, her patterning and ornament and has lectured on her work and thoughts at over 100 conferences and events worldwide since 2006. Bantjes began working as a book typesetter in 1984 and opened her own design firm in 1994. In 2003, she left all of that behind to begin an experiment in following love instead of money, by doing work that was highly personal, obsessive and sometimes just plain weird. At the same time she began writing for the design weblog "Speak Up" and her cheeky but thoughtful articles soon gained her recognition in the blogosphere. In 2008, she was accepted as a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI). Her 2010 book "I Wonder"—an exploration of the marriage of word and image—is included in the permanent collection of the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in New York. Much of Marian's work has been published in publications around the world, including Wallpaper, Creative Review, Azure, Communication Arts, Print, Design Indaba and étapes.

He is the recipient of Eckersberg Medal for his work on the Copenhagen Metro, Kasper Salin Prize 2011 for Trianglen Station in Malmo, Nordic Lyspris 2004 for the light in the Metro and his work has been been widely published in architectural and design magazines, feature programs on radio and television, both nationally and internationally.

She is the urbanism editor at Gizmodo and her work regularly appears in Los Angeles Magazine, the LA Weekly, Dwell, Fast Company, GOOD, T Magazine and the Los Angeles Times, as well as on the KCRW public radio show DnA: Design and Architecture. In 2010, she was named a USC Annenberg/Getty Arts Journalism Fellow for her writing on design and urbanism. In 2011, she was awarded an ArtPlace grant for the initiative GOOD Ideas for Cities, where creatives propose solutions to urban problems proposed by city leaders. Alissa lives in a Dodger blue house in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles where she throws ice cream socials, tends to a drought-tolerant garden and relishes life in L.A. without a car.
