Unpacking "Ultralight" with Mike Pfotenhauer of Osprey Packs
Though a cylindrical shape may be strong and easy to manufacture, packing things inside of it and then actually getting the canister inside a pack are definite disadvantages.
How would you design both a bear canister and backpack to work together?
I've written to Mountain Hardware about it and their response was "No, we don't. The places in the world where the canister are required are too small" I mostly backpack in California in the places where it they are required and in fact last time with an ultralight Osprey and I was cursing the design with every step.
It barely fits in the pack without some overly manly grunting and pushing, and of course, it creates a round hard spot on the back.
No, I don't have the ultra expensive carbon fiber ones.
