A Tool That Needs Designing: Something to Get Snow Off of Roofs
Sounds like setting the wire could be a job for a drone...
You may not need to worry about snow load if it's not piled high. Most roofs can handle 20-40 lbs per square foot.
You can try the wire under the snow on the roof trick without clumping the roof if you throw the string over the roof.

In Japan I noticed that almost all the roofs had notches near the edges, staggered. It seems like they could be used to hold the main pack of snow back from the edge a little, so that a small amount falls down, exposing the area where an ice dam would form. I'm trying to find some information on it now, very interesting.
Note that, to prevent ice damming, you only need to remove the snow near the roof edge or gutter. About 2 feet or half a meter is enough. That basic blue roof rake goes a little farther up than that.
