The rapid prototyping industry is starting to step up the game. Last month, Dimension Printing axed the prices of its 3D printers (to under 19 grand)and just today, Objet Geometries announced a new entry level machine in their range. the new Eden250 uses the same PolyJet technology within all of the Israelli company's products. Build envelope is a healthy 250mm x 250mm x 200mm and in terms of resolution, Objet use a printing analogy, so you have 600 dpi (X), 300 dpi (in Y) and 1600 dpi (in z - accounted for by the very small layer thicknesses.
If you haven't come across Objet's machines before or had a looksy a while back, they've come a long way. the range of materials is pretty impressive, from the usual array of 'hard resins' for a variety of applications and now they've commercialised two elastomer materials, ideal if you're working on rubbery stuff.
All in all, nice. Oh and if you've got the requirements for larger scale parts, the also recently introduced 500V is amazing and builds up to 500mm X 400mm X 200mm
