If you look inside the car elevators in any attendant-staffed Manhattan parking garage, you will see they are unglamorous affairs, with walls covered in well-scuffed bumpers. Even someone who parks cars all day for a living will sometimes make an error. So how do you get around this problem in a luxury building where rich, possibly clumsy folk are expected to drive their own exotics into an elevator that brings the car up to their suite?
Now that one such building, Miami's Porsche Design Tower, is becoming a reality, it appears the designers have refined how the luxury building's car-hauling elevators will work. In earlier designs the idea was to drive the car onto a solid platform that slid into the elevator. Here's the new scheme:
It's still CG, judging by the lifeless expressions on the drivers, but it's pretty good CG. And it apparently won't be long until we see real video of the process, as the currently-under-construction building has "topped off" this month at 60 stories.
