Uchronia at Burning Man

Uchronia, an art installation at this year's Burning Man, was the creation of design group Quinze & Milan and philosopher/art director Jan Kriekels. The belgian waffle-like structure was inhabited by a mass of Uchronians who rave-danced the nights away.

Colorful light shows and the fariy-tale story of Uchronia (eerily reminiscent of Scientology) brought the space to life each night until the "spaceshuttle" (belgian waffle) began to "take off" (burn down). Dressed in white, all Uchronians reported for "departure" precisely at 11:00 pm when the rooftop was suddenly ablaze and (supposed) visions of a messenger of the future and a messiah were reported to be hovering over the structure.

It's a sculpture of sharing, a refuge for human beings and the recommendation to rediscover the essence of being. Sunlight will be dropping ever changing shadows inside of the structure. At dusk lights will come on in the structure dropping its shadows in the surrounding area. It opens a void to a time of freedom and boundless creativity.

You have GOT to be kidding. They couldn't get the roof lit, number one. It was hilarious to see an "artiste" run amuck and whine about how "EEET IS NOT A WAFFLE!" multiple times whenever someone came close to him and said the word "Waffle". After a while, all the crap Euro-House DJs that trainwrecked repeatedly made the dancing crowds show up, dance for five minutes, hear five total messups, then leave. Beautiful sculpture and concept, but the execution, participation, and finish was crap.
