The robots came out in full force today. Honda led the way in performance with Asimo, presenting their newest robotic endeavor to an eager crowd. Less impressive in presentation, but literally mind-blowing was a partnership between Robotics TechZone and NeuroSky. Working together they created technology that translates brain waves into actions, i.e. the harder you concertrate, the more the robot moves. The idea was then translated into a video game -- no controls, only concentration to move the objects around the screen! Sounds like the next revolutionary therapy for A.D.D.The Japanese won our hearts with Paro, the sweet therapeutic robot-seal that responds to human touch. Perfect for hospitals or nursing homes, Paro is nuturing and comforting without the mess of clean-up. Up the aisle, Planet 82 adapted SMPD image sensors -- the stuff our digital cameras are made of -- to measuring body fat. I got a test from an on-site expert and was kindly congratulated for my 'big muscles' -- not bad after a day of eating cookies.
In the entertainment sector, TV's seemed to follow the supermodel mantra -- bigger, thinner, better. LG LCD presented an impressive 100 inch LCD TV, alongside an array of Low Power consumption screens. Perhaps bigger can be better?
Not much new in the car section, aside from louder amps and DVD players stuffed into every possible corner. One welcome suprise was Porsche who wowed the GPS world with, once again, a beautiful, minimal navigation system. Its matching car-mount has a speaker built into the neck, allowing for better audio while driving.
