I think carpet is a terrible idea. It seems perfectly formed to trap dirt within the pile, it's a nightmare to clean and it's made out of synthetic fibers. And when I saw this furniture object that incorporated carpet, I wondered what the designer was thinking:

Okay, I get that some people enjoy the feel of carpet under their bare feet. And I respect any designer who creates something for themselves as a one-off. But from a hygiene perspective, this is totally gross.

Is carpet a bad flooring solution? I get that it is not popular at the moment, but how exactly is it quantitatively worse than hard surface flooring? All household flooring solutions have pro's and con's, so do the cons really outweigh the pros?
I do not think its "totally gross" although it defiantly like it would get dirty and be a pain to clean thoroughly. From a cleanliness perspective carpet is not a great choice, especially the style incorporated in this stool. Having that on your floor would be a nightmare. Hard surfacing you still have the option to throw down a carpet in the right spot.
