Elon Musk's Tiny "Submarine" Turned Down During Thailand Cave Rescue Mission
Elon caught so much flack for this, I think if he hadn't called it a submarine and referred to it as an underwater stretcher, people would have seen it for what it really is and kept in perspective that he was throwing time and capital at trying to rescue children stuck in a cave halfway around the world. For people to really only see this as a PR stunt cheapens the fact that this *could* have made a difference in a shifting scenario where any advantage can make a difference.
Seems an awful lot like they jumped into design without knowing the criteria very well. Cave diving is no joke, and I doubt there were many people involved with meaningful knowledge of rescue diving or this particular situation. Something like this could be useful in other rescue cases, but maybe a version that wasn't made out of spare parts in an afternoon.
